An interview with Mattias Adolfsson

Tell us a bit about yourself.

My name is Mattias Adolfsson, I live in Sigtuna a small town just outside of Stockholm. I’ve been a professional in the game Industry and prior to that I worked with 3d animation and special effects. I quit the game industry last autumn and now work as a freelance Illustrator, doing commissions as well as illustrating books and making comics.

What first made you want to become an artist?

It was all that was left after trying to be a lot of other things…

Please describe your creative process (how, when, materials, etc).

I am an ink man, I ink directly and let the drawings evolve rather than plan. As part of the sketchbooks I use watercolor paper, fountainpen and watercolors, I stay well clear of digital media, (working with games cured me).

More from Mattias on youtube

What are some of your current projects?

I’m doing a children’s book for Sweden’s largest publisher, (and maybe an American book) and a free book for next year that based on more of my freer stuff

What advice would you give to artists who are just starting out?

I usually try not to give advice as I’m just starting out myself, but maybe to try to find a personal style.

Who are your favorite artists on skineart.com?

I like Lapin, Elbragon and Rudat.

What are your portfolio sites/blog?

Besides creating fantastic artwork, what are your other hobbies?

Well drawing takes most of my time. Apart from being a father, I read a lot of books, and I spend quite a lot of time running.
