2009Dec 1tags: Buddhist Cemetery | Daitoku-Ji | Kyoto | Linda BachrachI love cemeteries in general, but Buddhist ones are so fascinating because of the various bibs and sometimes hand knit hats that the bodhisattvas are wearing. I made an attempt to draw the ones that had worn away into a vague shapes and some of the more realistic ones that still remained. The white bibs here were adored with shapes, rather like petroglyphs, and this was the first I had seen of this style of bib.

2009Dec 1tags: 365 | drawing | grapite powder | portraitThis was done with graphite powder. It’s part of some dream images I had and one of my 365 days of Art (http://pencilshavings.typepad.com) it feels more like painting than drawing.

2009Dec 1tags: curls | demon | free form | ink | pencil | skull | vinesDemon Skull
Continuing the theme of stylized skulls from a few days ago and then filling the background with free-hand vines and curls because I haven’t done them in a long time and I wanted some practice. I’m not quite sure what to make of the final result, but it was nice taking a few hours to get lost in a picture without worrying too much about where it was going or what the final result would be. Done with a black pilot G-2 pen and a papermate mechanical pencil.
