The February 2012 Theme Challenge Is:

On the other side of the looking glass

This theme was suggested by Crane.

In order to assure that all of this month's entries can be viewed, please copy and paste the following in order to tag submitted posts:

On the other side of the looking glass, February 2012, Theme Challenge

At the time of the post, there are two 'skines displayed for the January Challenge (It's Broken), one by Uncle Bob and one by skiner diseased. As with last month, my submissions are in the queue and will post soon.

The Theme Challenge is held once a month and was started with the idea of encouraging 'skiners to make more use of the “Forums” section of the site. The challenge is non-competitive – there are no winners or losers and it is hoped that as many folks as possible will participate. The aim is to get everyone to enjoy coming up with their own interpretation of the theme.

If you have any ideas for future challenges then post them in the “MONTHLY THEME CHALLENGE” thread (http://www.skineart.com/forums/topic.php?id=64). I'll try to acknowledge each post so you know your idea is “in the jar."

The January 2012 Theme Challenge Is:

It's Broken

This theme was suggested by Trebor61 (also known as our dear Uncle Bob).

It is hoped that as many folk as possible will participate; it's always fun comparing the different ideas and interpretations when they arrive.
At the time of the post, their are no submissions displayed for December's theme (although I do have some inside information that two submissions are in the queue and will post shortly).

I'm enjoying catching up on all the posts I've missed over my past two and a half weeks of travel and I hope everyone else is doing well.

As always, if you have a theme idea, post it in the MONTHLY THEME CHALLENGE forum thread (this will ensure that I see it) and it will be added to the 'jar' with all the others.

She made me laugh the whole morning.
She is a Finnish artist who was a professional gardener and now she is famous for her Granny postcards. When she was a child she lived in a building in Helsinki and had two neighbors old ladies who later become the prototype of her wonderful mischievous grandmas.

The November 2011 Theme Challenge Is:

The contents of a trashcan

The contents of a trashcan, November 2011, Theme Challenge

As of this posting, there are six entries for October's challenge with a wonderful range of interpretation, inspiration, and media used. As always, themes never officially close; so if you're feeling inspired by a past theme, just tag it properly and share it whenever you are able.

We've had our first snow here in West Virginia (it came down in quiet, gentle flakes late Friday night as I was heading home from a Hallowe'en celebration with friends) and the cold weather looks like it's here to stay for a while. I hope everyone is keeping warm (where it's cold) and comfortable (everywhere else) and I look forward to seeing the next round of theme-inspired posts (as well as everything else that 'skiners share)!

I'm sorry Rose. I have just seen this. I have sent you a link to yet more photos which are of a more personal nature ie - me with my kilt on (I know how much you like men in kilts he he). Please let me know if you cannot access these as I realise you have internet problems.

I would like to say how much Margaret and I enjoyed our first trip to the United States of America. Everything, and everyone, we met were wonderful. It has taken me a good two weeks to write to all we met to offer thanks. What great hospitality and wonderful scenery which was very much appreciated by the pair of us. We are now busy saving hard for the next trip.

I'll try to do some justice, in future paintings and drawings on Skineart which will help me cement some wonderful memories as well as telling you all how I feel about this great country.

Took a look at your Wisconsin photos. More great sketching references, especially those incredible RED maple trees, and surprisingly, I loved the photos of O'Hare (I think that's what it was anyhow) of those structural arches. Have been there but don't recall them as my flight into O'Hare was hair-raising during a terrible thunderstorm, the worst in some 20 years it was said, with the field pretty well flooded. I was just happy to have my two feet on the ground again and that my children and I were safe, so whatever arches were there I missed them. Hahahahahah!

As promised, more photos. These are from the second leg of our trip which was based near Madison, Wisconsin and around parts of that wonderful state. There are also a few from O'Hare Chicago - a huge place which we managed to navigate without too much trouble. The photos, in both links, only show a small proportion of the 1000 shots Margaret and I took, some are of a personal nature, but we will be sending some of these to others, on Skineart, by more conventional methods. That's or first USA trip over. So sad but there is always another opportunity. Thanks John, Karen and family and Leo.

Now, why in the world would an engineer take so many photos of bridges????? Hahahahah-just kidding! Your photos are great with a "feel" for much of the city, I think, although how anyone can survive in such a beehive is beyond me. But it looks like you will have some good material for future paintings. I especially liked the photos of Margaret and the Lady Liberty close-up.

Now I'm looking forward to joining you in Wisconsin. Sure hope you had some autumn color there as Wisconsin is GORGEOUS in autumn. :-)

As you all have figured out Margaret and I are back in Scotland so everyone, elsewhere - and especially in America, can now relax. We had a fantastic time but its just too early to draw our experiences together for this forum. We will write to all who we met with our thanks. This includes Leo, from this website, who is a great guy; our only regret is time was all too short to annoy him. When we recover - yes "jet lag" seems to really exist, I'll send a photo link, via this forum, for anyone who is interested in seeing someone else's perspective on NYC and other parts of The USA. Safe to say, in the meantime, that America is not all its made out to be. Its BETTER!
