I like the idea of a theme, just to get inspired. And it is always cool to see what others have in mind compare to our own ideas. Maybe it could be there, and only people who wants to do it does it, and others just simply continues posting what they want.

Hi - my name's Mark, and I'm in Glasgow, Scotland. I'm getting back into drawing - I used to do quite a lot, but work and general stresses seem to have taken over more than I'd like. So, I picked up a Moleskine sketchbook at the weekend, determined to start doing something I enjoy again. And this site's a real inspiration - lots of fascinating work from all over the world.

Watercolour Moleskines.

I have a little one which is not perforated and a couple of large ones which are perforated. Maybe this varies depending in which country they are purchased. I find the big ones, (with the perforations), annoying as I want to keep a complete collection of paintings in place and the sheets tend to come apart. I've found that it's best to paint on one side of the page and make notes on the reverse. If I find that the page starts to fall out a wee strip of adhesive tape, on the non-painting side, usually works.

Having my genetic constructions in my thin 'skine, several watercolors in hardcover 'skine, some batch of haikus with small drawings in sketchbook 'skine. Daily thoughts, telephone numbers, scientific thoughts, night-dream lists - everything goes into these beautiful things.

My name is Sophie Brown. I'm NYC painter and artist though mostly self-taught. I've been a Moleskine fan for a decade, but use them primarily for journaling. For visual work I need much more room to move around; I'm not a small sketchbook girl. I'm also falling behind the current technology: I don't know how to post pictures of my work, though I don't do art in Moleskines anyway. No digital camera, no scanner, no avatar yet. I was originally concerned about quality control here need not to have worried: I think each and every artist on this site is fun to look at but I remain a browser for now.

Hi,
I am an American working in the UK. Love the site and finally submitted some drawings for consideration. So far just Beachy Head made it but I have loads of books from my travels. If I can find the one from Nepal I will try to get it posted. Regardless I am not a trained artist and do not work in the arts. Most of my career has involved travel all over the world and I will start hitting Africa this year so expect some drawnings from the Sahal pretty soon. Anyway I am a huge fan of the site and the concept so I am looking forward to contributing in the future. Any feedback would be great.

Hi, I'm Sarah. I live in Devon, England, but am a Yorkshire lass. I found out about this site via a link on the moleskinerie site. I think I first found that through searches about watercolours. Never took art at school (was always considered to be no good). I've been dabbling with crafty things and recently made a leap into watercolours and a whole new world has opened up. Within a few weeks I'd applied for an Arts and Design course at Exeter and got accepted!! To celebrate I bought a moleskine but am scared of ruining it with practice pieces so am still doodling in my old book until I get more confidence! The works posted are brilliant. I'm in awe. It's so inspirational and very generous of people to share their thoughts and ideas. I'm hoping to get to learn more new media apart from watercolours.

Please don't do yourself down by saying that you, "lack any sort of real artistic talent". Despite what you think is not so good, there will be plenty of others who will look at your efforts and say that they wish they could draw like you. Don't believe me? Take your wee book and pens down to the nearest park bench and start to sketch. You will soon be surrounded by folk complementing your work. I once sat in the main square in Bruges, trying to sketch the bell tower. My drawing was so bad I was about to rip it up when a shadow fell across the paper. This was cast by a German lady who was sneakily trying to photgraph it over my shoulder. She though it was great. After her initial, acute embarassment we both had a good laugh. Good luck!

Thanks to all who kindly posted comments or favourited my recent efforts. I've been using a Moleskine sketchbook for a few years but not in this way. May I explain! A couple of years ago I received a Moleskine as part of a Chrismas gift. Since I already had lots of sketchbooks I decided to try something different. I trawled the 'net for a wide variety of poems and copied them into the book, leaving lots of space. Now, when I go out, I look for subject matter to match the poems and, if I find anything, try to complement the prose with sketches. I now have around fifty pieces with space for around thirty more. Examples are The Scott Monument in Edinburgh to match McGonagall's poem describing the city, or a sketch of a sailing ship(obtained during a visit to Eyemouth Harbour) to sit beside John Masefield's "Sea Fever". It's good fun and encourages the habit of sketching regularly. My ambition is to visit Dublin to sketch the statue of Patrick Kavenagh, near Baggot Street, to sit beside his "Raglan Road". I suppose that, since joining this site, I will now have to carry two Moleskins, one for the poetry and one for other sketches.

Ella of English and Philippino heritage but after being born and raised in the United Arab Emirates, I consider myself to be local. I've always enjoyed drawing, even if the finished product isn't what I imagined it to be. I would say that I still have alot to learn about art and drawing, but I still persevere and try to draw whenever I can.
I first discovered Moleskines purely by chance, and I now I can't stop buying the wonderful things!

I found 'skine art through a blog post on one of my RSS feeds and thought it was absolutely inspiring to see the work of other people who have one thing in common. Moleskines.
Seeing the sheer variety of art on such an active community was absolutely breathtaking for me simply because it changes your whole perspective on what is art.

Hi, I've made several new submissions beginning several days ago, and I haven't seen or heard about any of them yet. Perhaps they were rejected, but in the past I thought I got an email telling me my submissions were rejected. Does that still happen? Also, I know the multiple submission policy, but I'm pretty sure other people have had multiple things posted since any of mine were.

I'm not trying to rush anyone, and I'm not concerned if my submissions were rejected, I just want to make sure they didn't get lost somewhere. Thanks!

I know it's running on WordPress (which I use for my sites); I'm just wondering how you set the post box at the top of the page for us when we're logged in. I'm loving that feature.

Cheers,

C.K., originally from Jackson, Mississippi, I consider myself a New Yorker after living there for 7 years, but I've recently been transplanted by work to Santa Monica, California. I was a fine art major in college, focused primarily on sculpture and sketching. I ended up following a different path for my career, but drawing and doodling is very centering and therapeutic for me, so I keep doing it. I recently started up a webcomic called Screaming Tonge (http://screamingtongue.com) which is in its very early stages. For the most part I'm taking photographs of the characters I've drawn in my Moleskine and adding speech bubbles in Photoshop to build the comic.

I found 'skine.art via a friend who'd seen the site mentioned on another blog and immediately added it to my RSS reader. There's some really cool stuff here. It's good to see an active community of creative people just sketching and doodling and making cool stuff.
