2009Jul 26tags: Dry creekbed | ink | watercolorIt’s hard to believe that this creek can be a raging torrent at times, but it can. This was painted in late September when the golden rabbit brush is in bloom and the creek is just a tiny trickle. My pup and I wander the creek bed then and pick up polished river rocks for my front walkway.

2009Jul 25tags: aquarelle | plants | sketchbook | watercolorThis is an endemic Dinaride burdock.
Done by pencil and watercoulour on large sketchbook (btw. not appropriate for watercolour being a bit greasy) The real thing to the right, but after a couple of days…
I’ve got to get hold of some watercolor Moleskines as soon as I can! -
2009Jul 24tags: Blue Dick | ink | Paintbrush | Resin Weed | watercolorThese are plants that grow in dry spots where it would be just about impossible to find any water. But the yellow one, which is a resin weed, smells absolutely wonderful if you drive your car over it, and it does smell a little bit like resin but fresher. There are so many that sometimes you can’t help but drive your car over them when they fill up a dirt road.

2009Jul 23tags: ink | Ivy geranium shadows | watercolorAnd here is one I did right after I discovered Molys, so it was about three or four years ago. I still like the flower shadows against the lower wall.

2009Jul 22tags: ink | watercolor | Woodland creekHere’s another creek. In this hot weather it’s wonderful to dip my toes into water that’s still cold from snow run-off, although the toes still turn blue. By late August the water will be warm enough for swimming, and then by September a lot of the creeks will be dried up until we get the next rain in about November—if we are lucky.

2009Jul 21tags: blue flax | crimson clover | ink | Ox-eye daisy | watercolorDecided to do a red, white and blue theme. These all grow together in my yard, although in the heat we have been having everything is slowly fading away. Today it was 101 degrees and I have fans going all over the house because last summer my air conditioning died and I haven’t replaced it. Bob, the garden spider is truly harmless

2009Jul 20tags: ink | Sierra Tiger Lily | watercolorA spectacular plant, and this also grows only where there is plenty of water, even if the hillside behind it looks completely dry. We have had a lot of them this year because of the later than usual rains in May and in the very early part of June with water accumulating in some of the roadside ditches, so in certain places they are blooming all along the roads.

2009Jul 19tags: ink | Seep-spring monkey flower | speedwell | watercolorThese are two flowers that indicate WATER. Wherever they grow there will be water seeping either a little bit above ground or just underneath the ground even if all around is arid and dry and dead.
