Any doubts I had about being back in Taiwan was erased when I bit into my first black-pepper bun for the first time in my life, sometime last year. (I’ve probably eaten it as a kid, too, but I won’t pretend that that counts at all.) It was love at first sight with this golden-crisp, savory with a hint of spice, juice-splattering, crunchy-on-the-outside chewy-on-the-inside ball of goodness. No wonder my mother used to line up for half an hour to buy them fresh out of the clay oven.

Second in the series of paintings using just the three primaries. I think this is my least favorite so far, and it is in large part because I isolated the use of red to the rat. Changed it up again on the third, and I think I like the results there better. Third is coming up!

Did these guys in my new watercolor moleskine. On the suggestion of my brother, I decided to paint them in only the three primaries. Came out way better then I hoped it would, think I want to do a whole series of these. Let me know what you think!
