Downtown Duncan, BC. aka “The Totem Poles City”
Duncan is not too far from Chemainus and totem poles were scatter all over in town that were build by the First Nations back in 1985. A lot of the pole have marking that tells it own story, myth, and history from the past. The First Nations are very spiritual which I’m sure you know that. The totem poles I have sketch here are by the Duncan Street Train Station next to a small museum.
Below the poles, is a very cool-looking Edwardian style of the City Hall with a clock tower. I’m not sure how old this building is.. The City Hall is just right next to a new building (around 70s) which is the Royal Canadian Legion. Those Legions are everywhere from large city to tiny towns.
Couple (suspected tourists) on the R. The guy in his ultra mint pullover doing much of the yammering as his girl played with her camera.
Waiting for the R back to BK at Canal street. The train is sitting as I enter the station. I get on and sit for a while sketching this woman as the bad smell from the station wafts into the car. Just as the doors are about to close I realize that this actually a W and serves me no purpose and hop off just in time.
Transit Worker Late night on the A (3-20, well actually 21, -10)
A mass of bright orange and yellow over black hoodie.
Cozy Grey Jackets and Pink Turtlenecks on the 3 (Monday, 2-4-10)
Woman on left looked like she had sunk into her jackets as if it was a larg sensory depravation tank and only her head was bobbing above it. Woman to her right kept a harder posture as we rode. To her left the scene tapered off into fur collars and puffy black jackets.
