I really struggled with this one. It began as a watercolor, but I couldn’t get the colors intense enough or smooth enough, especially for the smooth chocolate, so I let it dry and then went to markers. Am still not happy with it, but it will have to do for now.
Champagne Mango
This is my submission for this month’s theme challenge.
Champagne mangoes are a bit smaller (only about the size of my hand) and sweeter than regular mangoes; they are grown on only one family farm in Mexico and are very difficult to find in this area of the US (the closest place that carries them is a Whole Foods Market located about an hour North of here in Pittsburgh). While I won’t make the drive specifically for these beauties, whenever I find myself in Pittsburgh I stop in at the market and purchase a dozen or more to bring home with me. Once they ripen they can be kept in the fridge for a few weeks, giving me plenty of time to savor their sweet, ambrosial flesh.
My favorite dessert is one of these, either at room temperature or just out of the fridge and chilled, sliced and scored and eaten one bite-sized piece at a time. If you ever have the chance to savor a champagne mango or two, I highly recommend it!

Scottish Dessert – pencil with some ink in a Watercolour Moleskine
My entry for July’s Theme Challenge which is “Desserts”. Why not give this a go? Just submit a piece of artwork based on this theme and tag it as shown below. We are also looking for more ideas for themes and urge everyone to post theirs in the Forums section “MONTHLY THEME CHALLENGE”.
The late Sir Harry Lauder often humoured the Scots whisky culture in songs such as “I belong to Glasgow” (When I get a couple of drinks on a Saturday, Glasgow belongs to me). No one is laughing now. Many of my countrymen consume far too much alcohol and this is becoming known as a “Scottish Disease”. On average Scots drink almost ten litres of alcohol annually which means some are consuming a hell of a lot more than this considering some of us, like me, rarely drink. Scotland is eighth in the world drinking league. If my coarse attempt at humour draws attention to this then the monthly theme has had another use.

My entry for Junes challenge Sanctuary! The actual stained glass window is of a Bishop of Chichester commemorated in Berwick church Sussex.I hope he does not mind me taking a few liberties with his reading material! It may give him a few different answers to the problems of the world than the original he holds in the church, who knows.

I started a new moly today and here is the first painting in it. I hope this qualifies for “Sanctuary” because it really is. The man who designed this garden has been doing so for over 30 years, and it is open to the public four days a week. He is now in his 80s and is still hosting the restaurant that is there. You can get an idea of the place if you google “Big Springs Garden, Sierra City, CA”. Last year I spent a lot of time there as a weed puller and planter with a volunteer group, but I admit, I spent more time looking at the scenery that I spent working. It was modeled after Monet’s Garden with his own touches in a different setting. I tried to find a happy medium here between some lines and just watercolor, but am not too thrilled with the heavy line under the bridge reflection. Oh well! Try again! 
By the way, this Moly does not have the perforations as my last ones did, and I miss them. I guess if there’s anything I want to frame I will have to use a box cutter.
Sanctuary-at home, napping with dogs-TV on. This is my favorite thing to do on a Saturday afternoon. Pencil, watered-down ink in a waterbrush, rapidograph pens, watercolor in moleskine sketchbook.
Sanctuary
One of the most comforting things I can think of is curling up with a cup of hot tea or cocoa and being completely at peace with myself and my world, reflecting and musing on whatever comes to mind.
This is my submission for theme challenge #2 (theme challenge for the month of June 2009).
My submission for “Sanctuary”. Not sure how much of a sanctuary this was in reality because the little guy fell out and I had to put him back before the cat got him. But I like the chubby little guy, and he must have survived because he came to see me for a few years after that every time I was out in the yard—at least I think it was him because he would come very close and chirp at me like he knew me (yes, I think other creatures do have memory).
