When Will the Stars Be Right?
Landscape inspired by Lovecraft.
The Stars are Right
A friend shared a short cartoon adaptation of some of H.P. Lovecraft’s myhtos called Li’l Cthulhu and it inspired me to try a cute, adorable interpretation myself.

It’s hard.
Even tho maybe they never really belonged to you.
(Couldn’t get all the stars to shine at the same time
Was holding a lamp above it and still… )
This is based on the lyrics of a song (which are written on the glacier) by Death Cab for Cutie. Every time I hear this song I have this picture in my mind and it was great to finally draw it. I had a great time painting/drawing this one and I love how it turned out. Sorry if your country is horribly deformed, I wanted the continents to be recognizable without spending an eternity worrying about detail. The stars were made by sprinkling a bit of salt on the black watercolor while still wet.
In case you can’t read my writing here are the lyrics:
“I wish the world was flat like the old days, so I could travel just by folding a map… there’d be no distance that could hold us back.”
Beat goes on
once again a drawing inspired by a song of Madonna

this was just a stream of consciousness sketch (otherwise known as a doodle). Just letting my pen lead the way. This idea may be cleaned up later to be made into a screen print, we’ll see.
