2010Jun 4tags: fingers | skyscraperI was inspired after seeing Jeffrey Lewis in conversation last night in London to try combining drawing from life with whatever else pops into my head, which is what appeared to fill many of his sketchbooks.
Is this drawing I’ve just finished a commentary on the state of affairs that large corporations / banks leave the rest of us in? Is it my subconscious acting out following the letter I received today from the Royal Academy letting me know that, despite one of my pictures being shortlisted, I’ve not made it into the Summer Exhibition? Or are the fingers actually doing the ‘peace sign’?
I just don’t know.
But I don’t think it’s that last one.

Downtown Chicago. Drawn from life while sitting at the foot of the Wrigley Building, looking south across the Chicago River. Mather Tower is building in the center.
One note: I left the building on the far left to finish later, hoping to use photo reference; instead, I got impatient and just doodled it in without any reference at all, which explains the discrepancy for all you familiar with the real-life scene.
