Here’s the house in the village of Sitzenkirch, Germany we lived in for two years. It sits directly across the street from the school where I have taught for the past 14 years. My daughter and son had only to walk 20 steps to school in the morning.

2011Apr 5tags: germany | Sausenburg | sitzenkirchThis is the view out my window while sitting at my desk. This is the last year I will enjoy this view, as our school is moving locations. Atop the hill there in the distance is Sausenburg castle ruins, built in 1246 and destroyed in 1678 during the Franco-Dutch War. It’s a 35-40 minute uphill walk from this point, which I used to do every day after teaching for exercise. (I need to do it again!) The trees are in full bloom now, and colors are returning to the hills.

2009Oct 27tags: germany | sitzenkirchA sketch of Sitzenkirch again, where I teach. The big building on the right, behind the little barn used to be an old cloister in this village. It was built back around 1100 AD, from what the locals tell me. It is now used as a normal barn.

2008Oct 30tags: germany | guesthouse | sitzenkirch | wild boarSitzenkirch. Parent – teacher conferences today, so I had a break and did a sketch of Guesthouse Engel just down the road, then added color when I got home. A great place to eat wild boar if you’re so inclined.
