Just back from a business trip to Singapore. What a nice surprise: during lunchbreak a group of chinese acrobats and musicians showed us a traditional Dragon and Lion Dance, to celebrate the Chinese new year.

One of the pieces from our sketchwalk 2 months ago. I moved to this area (Tiong Bahru) about 6 years ago and still loving it. Lots of charming pre and post war buildings built for mass housing projects. You can also see a lot of influences from the art deco movement in the architectural ornamentations and details.

I sat next to this food stall that sells chicken/duck/roast pork. The colours of his banner, lanterns, pails and meat made the messiness of this stall very intriguing so hence the sketch.

This particular house unit belongs to a medium who runs a home based temple. The banner suggests that he represents the monkey god spirit through whom people come to him for advice. They often hang colourful flags and banners to announce their presence.
