2011May 20tags: art | conflict | drawing ink | face | female | girl | girls | pencil | portrait | selfThis is, in many ways a self-portrait. I feel that everything I am, have been & can be is in this piece. We’ve all burned bridges & lost something or someone close to us. In the end is it out of self-loathing or selfishness that we suck others in? Or are we just too damaged to accept a good thing when it’s there, even though we try our best and still seem to fall short? When others offer a hand, do we generally want to help ourselves, or are we just inviting them to share our misery? Do we trust others enough to let them in, or do we try to seem normal to the point where it damages us further? In the end, who does our pain end up hurting more, ourselves or others? This piece represents two sides that I feel are present in everyone.
This piece was made using mixed media on 18″x24″ paper

2011May 2tags: brush pen | faber castell | portraitA portrait of someone who I sort of made up but got inspiration for from my cousin. Drawn with a Faber Castell pitt brush pen. I tried a new technique–lines instead of my regular crosshatching.

2011May 1tags: p!nk | pencil | pink | portraitA portrait of Pink done with an HB mechanical pencil. I had issues with the mouth and teeth, and erased so much that even if I could correct it, her teeth would look wrong. But I’m working on it.

2011Apr 8tags: ink | Ira | portrait | spring breakSpring break. I used newly mixed ink (thinking now I should add more yellow-honey in it, today will try to obtain pipette from one genius architect), Kuretake H2O and green Kuretake Twin pen in Moleskine A4.

2011Mar 30tags: Ira | Kuretake H20 | portrait | sepia | Shlomo CarlebachShlomo Carlebach, known as The Singing Rabbi. I always have his CD in the car, whenever I feel sad or hurt, I listen to his voice, sometimes without words, it has sort of healing power, his love for people. So I drew portrait, as I admire people who made a difference. Used Sepia ink and Kuretake H20.
