Sunset, Platt Hill – Watercolour
The view from my garden on a cold, wintry evening
Platt Hill, by Edinburgh Airport – Watercolour
This is the view, from our window, looking to the east. It shows an airliner leaving the airport. Planes actually fly higher than this and are further away but I’ve used some license to get everything into the frame.
Whenever the wind comes from the east, planes take off in that direction. Its the only time we really hear them and, even then, its not noisy. Because this flight path would be directly over the city, planes tend to bank sharply to the left, turning through 180 degrees before heading out over the Atlantic. It can be quite spectacular to see. Platt Hill lies between Ratho and the busy arterial road into Edinburgh. It is covered with fine, mature beech trees which I’ve tried to show here.
Misty Morning – Watercolour
The view from our living-room window which shows Platt Hill, a mound to the north of our village. To reach this its necessary to cross the Union Canal. On hot days or, like those of recent times, very wet ones, mist or even fog runs along the canal and through the trees. This is an attempt to show this.
Platt Hill – Watercolour
We had more snow today so I thought that I would post this which shows the hill opposite my house. It was done a few weeks ago
