Hill With Lodge Pole Pines
A sketch from the roadway in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. The tall spindliness of these pine trees fascinated me and I tried to capture some of their feel in my little molie.

Sunrise. Pine trees in snow – Watercolour on Aquarell “rough” paper
Our first snow of the winter fell last night. Only a few inches but I was out with the camera first thing today. (at -4C it was a bit cold to sketch). The sun was very low and casting wonderful tones on the clouds. We get the same effect at sunset here as the sun does not rise much above the horizon at this time of year. This was “inspired”, if that’s the right term, by a group of trees standing resolutely in the fields of a nearby farm. Not much snow on them but we have blizzards forecast for the weekend and into next week so perhaps more snowy “Brrrr” scenes to follow. Watch this space.
