Snowy Pentland Hill – Watercolour in a Watercolour Moleskine

This is the view from Flotterstone car park towards Turnhouse and Carnethy hills. Its a popular walk of around 7 miles and will be all the better for the amount of snow lying. Although the maximum height reached is only around 1900 feet, it is always wise to take sensible precautions when walking on these hills in the winter. This includes food, liquids, map and compass as well as warm and waterproof clothing. The temperature is/was around (-5C) there today and will be much lower later this week if the forecast comes true. Although conditions are set to become clearer it is always good practise to be able to navigate with maps and compass. I once had to use a compass to find my way off these hills in dense fog accompanied by heavy rain. It felt as if I was in the Alps.
