This is the letter “E” from an Alphabet Series I created in a Moleskine Sketchbook. I wanted to play with negative space and the book format, so I ended up with a mirror image. I liked the way the pattern rubbed onto the left facing page, so I burnished the pages when they were closed to pick up the pattern on the left. I used a fixative when i was finished to keep the black “E” from soiling the white “E”. More letters at: http://www.journalingarts.wordpress.com.
It’s time of the year when most of my jobs are cleared, and some minor jobs still left dangling. And distraction kicks in while surfing, i came across the story of Laocoön, and one mythology leads to another… i saw this stunning 2200 year old statue of Nike. I know i need to sketch it! So yes, work can wait.. and i tell myself 30 minutes to sketch and thats it! The sketch gradually became harder and more intricate than expected, and when i thought i almost got it, more than an hour past by. Crap… now i REALLY need to work.
NOTE: Those red label dots i placed on the sketch are actually mistakes that i made; as my patience to get the details right was wearing a little thin…..(Gahhhh….)
Taken from a very rough study statue of Laocoön And Sons (wrestling the serpent-last dated 1506). Although i grasped the basic shape right, somehow i missed out a a few fine details. I will sketch an improve version of this soon!
I watched The Bride of Frankenstein for the first time last week (with my sketchbook in hand, obviously.)

Two guys pencil sketch… I don’t know why there is a stool floating over the guy on the right’s arm, except that I drew that before I drew either of them. http://screamingtongue.com
