Uncharted Stars
I’m taking part in the Sketchbook Project World Tour 2012 and this is my first work in my sketchbook (inside the back cover, as working back-to-front is a habit I picked up a while ago). My theme this year is ‘Uncharted Waters.’ This is done with dark blue acrylic paint and silver sharpie marker.
hello ‘skine.art!
I’m happy to announce that after ages of lurking here and loving it, I have finally taken the plunge and created an account. I love the work being shared and am excited to be a part of it all at last. my first post is a two-parter: two different versions of one design I created a little while back.
I’ve been a huge fan of sacred geometry for at least a year or so—seed/egg/flower of life, celtic knotwork, &c.—and decided to combine that with my lifelong love of the number 4 (and, by extension, squares) in a set of interlocking square links.
I like to think of them representing the 4 classical elements: (clockwise from top) Earth, Air, Fire, Water. another interesting reading I discovered is that they seem to represent the 4 base pairs of DNA (GATC) which are the building blocks of life as we know it. naturally, there are many more sets of 4 which could be referenced; and I invite you to choose the one(s) which speak(s) to you.
the version on the left was done with a Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pen as well as Prismacolor colored pencils; and the version on the right was done with a brush-tip F-C artist pen and colored brush-tip F-C markers.
I hope you enjoy; and I look forward to sharing more of my work in the future.
Cheers,
William
