2010Nov 6tags: Maastricht | VrijthofMaastricht, the Netherlands. Sketch made this week during my lunchbreak. The bare trees would have made the drawing too dark, so I just silhouetted them.

2010Feb 25tags: Carnaval | MaastrichtCarnaval parade in Maastricht, sunday 15th. The Maastricht streetparade, called “boonte storrem” (the colourful storm) is less organized, more anarchistic and even more colourful and musical as the other parades. Impression on the backside of the cityhall; it was very cold and snowing a little.

2010Jan 28tags: MaastrichtMaastricht Jodenstraat. A quick sketch of this old street, which follows the route of an ancient Roman road. The street was called Jew’s street already back in 1295.

2009Mar 10tags: graffiti | MaastrichtGraffiti in Maastricht: the same squatted and abandoned factory. I think they use the silver Citroen 2CV as a chickenshed. We call this car “lelijke eend”; that means ugly duck. If you ever drove it, you know why. http://www.renefijten.blogspot.com/

2009Feb 28tags: Carnaval | Maastricht
Carnaval Maastricht, last weekend. A lot of “zaate herremeniekes” (small brassbands) play in the streets. They mostly consist of a few trumpets, a tuba and a lot of drums. Never in tune, always loud. And always dressed up. http://renefijten.blogspot.com/ -
2009Feb 26tags: Carnaval | Maastricht | Segura!Carnaval in Maastricht ended last thursday night, but here is another impression of one of the Sambabands called “Segura!” Not only their rhythems are fantastic, but also their suits. Anything between Mad Max and Darth Vader, and always in black.

2009Feb 25tags: Maastricht | SambabandCarnaval in Maastricht: 3 days of streetparades, dancing, singing and drinking beer in the cafe’s, streets and squares of Maastricht, Netherlands. There are thousands of dressed up carnavalists in the citycenter, enjoying the sounds of the numurous bands. This is a drawing of Passatempo, a sambaband. A little Brazil in Maastricht. http://www.urbansketchers.com/
