I have always been fascinated by these stone images in Japan. The peaceful faces, the red bibs and the wool hats are so charming. This group sits in the cemetery of a small temple behind the Kyoto Okura Hotel. I visit them twice a year.

The Yamazaki Distillery near Kyoto, Japan, was one of the most fun places I have ever visited. It is just beautiful inside and out and lies in a gorgeous mountain setting. This is the bar where you can taste a generous portion of three different whiskys made by Suntory; Yamazaki single malt, Hakushu single malt, and the finest whisky currently in the world, Hibiki blended whisky.
A little map I made of an exquisitely beautiful walk I took in the Sagano district of Arashiyama, Kyoto. It is a preservation district and a little off the beaten tourist path, but well worth the time and effort. I want to do this walk again in the fall season.

It’s papaya time again in Honolulu! This is the Wednesday morning market in Kapiolani Park, which I stumbled upon while taking my walk around the park for exercise.

Several blocks of Ginza are closed off to cars on Sundays beginning at noon, and people can freely walk, shop at big department stores, or sit at tables under umbrellas in the street and just people-watch. There is quite an amusing display of fashion, including dog fashion going on, as well as a great sketching opportunity.
