More you think what is really matters. Anyway here is a little mess and a regular day with plans and worries. My pretty Rembrandt watercolors which still waiting to be used and appreciated and couple of new piston water brushes I got on Ebay. I used ink and Inktense pencils for this drawing.

Just an experiment to see how far I can push the vividness of Inktense Blocks. I think the answer is, “quite far”.

2011Apr 20tags: Inktense | RowanTree Study, Rowan – Intense
This is meant to complement a recent post of the Ash Tree. Rowan is the Scottish name for Mountain Ash. They are traditionally grown near the house to ward off evil spirits. It is considered bad luck to cut one of these down as their protection will be lost. This should come in handy in our village as at least one lady claims to be a witch. I once said to her, after she spoke at length about her beliefs, “You know. Years ago you would have been burned at the stake for comments like that.” With a smile she replied, “I was!” I have just planted another Rowan in my garden.

It was very windy, last Thursday and I was outside working in my workshop when I heard this tremendous racket from the birds which roost in the high trees behind our house. Glancing upwards I was amazed to see this huge flock of crows or rooks zooming backwards and forwards in the same way that starlings do late at night. I don’t know why they were doing this but I quick collected my video camera and shot a quick film to record this behaviour. This painting is copied from a still from this video:
Maybe the wind was upsetting the birds as their nests, high up in the beech and elm trees were swaying terribly. We have stayed here for 30 years and have never seen this before.

This is meant to complement my recent post showing beeches in Almondell Park. I’ve been doing quire a few “studies” lately as I strive to improve my tree shapes. Its also a great way to help with tree recognition which I find awkward when they are covered in leaves.

2011Jan 8tags: Bryant Park | ink | Inktense | Ira | manhattanWhen my daughter was little we used to go to Manhattan every weekend, I planned our adventure ahead on a computer: place to see, place to eat, walk a lot, little fun to buy something , so she will tolerate exhibitions and serious music. We called it celebration of life. It was exhausting but wonderful. So she got used to museums, opera, concerts. (It was pretty cheap, family and student’s special discounts). And we fell in love with Manhattan, where you can always find something new to explore. So here Bryant Park from Ave of America’s side and I fit people in. Ink and couple of Inktense pencils.
