Liberty from the high Line – Watercolour

Impressions of New York City

We didn’t expect to see the iconic Statue of Liberty so soon. We actually decided not to visit the area as we had heard of long queues to get around the place. It seemed like viewing the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Its no good going right up to it then you cannot see it.

We walked around the High Line Park, built over a disused railway line and were enjoying the relative peace and surrounds when, turning round a corner, there she was, far in the distance instantly recognisable. This is copied from a long range shot with maximum telephoto exposure. Later that day we indulged ourselves in a boat trip around Manhattan and passed right next to the statue getting a first class view of one of the world’s best known scenes.
