I decided late in the afternoon to take a hike up Mt. Daimon-Ji behind the house we had rented in Kyoto. The first part was really pleasant, with a stair-step creek running along side the path and a lovely little fresh water collection point where locals were filling their vessels with fresh mountain water. After I crossed the red bridge however, things changed and the path was steep, steep, steep. I toughed it out for about 30 minutes and finally reached a plateau. It was getting dark and because I was perspiring, the mosquitoes were attacking me, and I decided to head down instead of trying to the top. It was a perfect decision as I found out later from locals that I had only gone HALF WAY! Yikes I am out of shape!!!
