Bonobos are known as the sexy ape due to their propensity to make love not war. They have even been found to learn and use grammar and syntax equivalent to a 5 year old child. This is the last of the apes in my Darwin series, but not the last primate.

2009Jul 21tags: ape | Evolution | gouache | micron pen | moleskineThis is my first submission after enjoying this site for the last 4 months. Everyone is so talented. This is one of a series of micron pen and gouache paintings of the great apes and their skulls to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin’s birth and to demonstrate our animal ancestry. This was done in a Moleskine sketchbook, which although doesn’t take watercolour very well, is very good for opaque paints like gouache. I will continue to post more of the paintings in this series as time goes on.
