Building Impression
Just a really quick sketch of a building along the waterfront, cleaned up a little digitally.

Hearts
I was just working on filling a page in a few minutes of free time and this is what I ended up with.
Who Lives Here?
I was drawing from my imagination and I ended up with this strange building in a strange land that reminds me of Dr. Seuss, a dark Alice in Wonderland, and a little bit of Lovecraft all intersecting each other.
Wedding Ring
I found myself with a little free time this evening and decide to give the August theme challenge a go. The ‘favorite rocks’ in this case are the stones in my engagement/wedding ring.
My husband and I just celebrated our first anniversary on Tuesday and are in the process of planning our reception this Saturday (we eloped on the spur of the moment the day after he proposed in San Diego, so the party is for all the family and friends to celebrate with us). The stones (rocks!) are a central ruby flanked by two diamonds. He did such an amazing job picking a one-of-a-kind, gorgeous ring and every time I catch a glimpse of it, it reminds me how much he means to me and how much I am loved.
Anyway, enough mushy stuff, there are a few of my truly favorite rocks.
Champagne Mango
This is my submission for this month’s theme challenge.
Champagne mangoes are a bit smaller (only about the size of my hand) and sweeter than regular mangoes; they are grown on only one family farm in Mexico and are very difficult to find in this area of the US (the closest place that carries them is a Whole Foods Market located about an hour North of here in Pittsburgh). While I won’t make the drive specifically for these beauties, whenever I find myself in Pittsburgh I stop in at the market and purchase a dozen or more to bring home with me. Once they ripen they can be kept in the fridge for a few weeks, giving me plenty of time to savor their sweet, ambrosial flesh.
My favorite dessert is one of these, either at room temperature or just out of the fridge and chilled, sliced and scored and eaten one bite-sized piece at a time. If you ever have the chance to savor a champagne mango or two, I highly recommend it!

I was playing around with black and white contrast again and came up with this two-page spread over a few days.
Wonderland?
This is just another organic, flowing checkerboard page which I decided to do after the first one came out so well. This one reminds me of the spatial distortions as Alice falls down the rabbit hole.
Plantain
I wanted to do something a little more organic and flowing. This started with the outline of a small plantain leaf from a friend’s backyard and just grew from there. This was done completely with a pilot G2 gel pen.
Sun Worshiper with Lotuses
This was just the result of playing around one night with a mechanical pencil and a ruler, combining some straight lines and some curves.
