Mike Mignola’s Hellboy is one of my favorite characters and I thoroughly enjoy reading of his adventures and all the figures from folklore and world mythology that cross his path.

I Dreamed of the Underworld

Last night I dreamed o the underworld, an opening in a rock face leading to the land of the dead. I spent a little while this evening putting the idea in my molie.

Rampant Griffin

Another shape experiment from this evening. I started by freely drawing shapes and after a while stopped to look at the collection and see what popped out at me.

Hummingbird and Flowers

I had a few minutes this morning and decided to try losing myself in shapes (Bob gave me the idea in a comment a few days ago http://www.skineart.com/art/11572/fire-and-ice-iia-flame-bird-resplend/#comments). The hummingbird started things off and then the flowers were more conscious experiments in building larger shapes out of smaller ones.

Clementines, Apples, and Tea

A collage that’s grown over several weeks due to some of the habits I’ve been keeping lately. The stamp was on a holiday card I received from a friend in England and was actually the beginning of the whole thing.

Favorite Childhood Toy

A stuffed Grumpy Bear was my very first stuffed animal (my sister had one, too, and there is at least one picture of us newly home from the hospital in our carriers with our grumpy bears tucked in with us) and it was my favorite toy all through my childhood. (The scanner washed out the lighter tones, as usual, but the idea is still there).

There Will Be Ood

Mick Statham’s tour of the Doctor’s got me thinking about how much I enjoy the show (I’m a relatively recent convert…catching what I can on PBS and BBC America for a few years now) and I really like the look of the Ood, so I decided to sketch one. My scanner seems to lose the low grey tones and lighter shades, but the idea is still there. The title came from a picture I found on the internet while I was searching for a reference.

Fire and Ice II

A flame bird resplendent facing an angry ice giant. I started with a few similar shapes and then looked for features the popped out at me and pursued the picture from there.

Sam Adams Utopias

This was my father’s holiday gift to my husband and I, a bottle of Sam Adams Utopias (I’m not quite sure what strings he pulled to get it, since it’s only sold every two years and specialty stores that get it usually have a waiting list of people hoping to get a bottle). We’re saving it for a special occasion, but I hope it’s worth the hype.
