This was sketched about half way up the mountain which encompasses the Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto. Foxes wearing red bibs, torii gates, shimenawa and gohei were all around us. Boxed osake sat on some of the gravesites. A very colorful and charming place to spend the day. And a delicious soft ice cream was my treat.

2009Jun 2tags: heron | Kyoto | Shirakawa canal | sketchers | willow treesThis sketch was done at a favorite point on the Shirakawa Canal which runs for miles through Kyoto, Japan. We always stop and sit for a moment on the wooden platform at the ede of the water and rest from our long walk. Today this portion of the canal had many sketchers, and we were lucky enough to have a heron fishing very close to us. The canal is very shallow and clean and lined with willow trees.

2009May 30tags: cats | Kyoto | Linda BachrachThis is a small colony of cats I met last week in Kyoto while climbing to the top of Fushimi Inari Shrine. There must be 10,000 torii gates placed inches apart and making a long orange tunnel up and down the mountain. It was a noticeably more difficult climb for me this time since I had not done this in 10 years!

2009Apr 23Sharpie and Sai Watercolor Brush Pens. Took a stroll over to the garden today and discovered a seating area of benches and a hand painted table that I had never seen before. Drew what I could see from there and then found the Chinese birdhouse and watering can in another part of this small garden. The small slim Japanese eggplant was lying on the bench right beside me.

2009Mar 17tags: Honolulu | kindergarten | Waikiki Aquarium | watercolor and ink penThe Waikiki Aquarium is close to where I live. Today we finally had tropical weather again after a long period of ugliness and I felt like going out for a sketch. This was part of a larger group of kindergateners who had come to a grassy area beside the Aquarium with chaperones to enjoy lunch in the part after visiting the Aquarium.
