Enjoyed a wonderful meal here at this restaurant called “Farmhouse Kitchen” in Tokyo.
All ingredients are fresh from local farms and food is served beautifully and creatively as well as being extremely tasty. My sketch shows the salad bar and the paper advertising signs from their vendors. The entrance is really different in that you walk through a refrigerated room full of fresh fruits and vegetables before seeing the main dining area. A totally new concept for primarily vegetarian dining in Japan.

2010Jun 7tags: natsu basho | sumo | TokyoI went to see the summer sumo basho in Tokyo. You can always see sumo wrestlers of the lower divisions walking outside in yukata when you enter around 4pm. It was a warm evening and we enjoyed chanko nabe with friends afterwards.

2010Jun 4tags: japan | Jiyugaoka | TokyoThis is an upscale neighborhood outside the Yamanote Loop in Tokyo. I visited there on a weekend when they were enjoying a Marie Claire Fair and it was crowded with people, dogs, cats, bicycles, young and old, lost of booth etc. and great weather to boot. Great visuals all over this town.

This is the view from my lanai that I sketched because it was the day of SketchCrawl and also to try and distract myself just a little bit from worrying about the big wave rolling in. Every sailboat on the island seemed to be out at sea and our beaches were deserted. All I saw was a tidal surge every 10 minutes or so with our reefs being exposed, then covered, and then exposed again. Am so happy we survived this one and I can relax and focus again.

2010Feb 1tags: Baker Street Bistro | Linda Bachrach | San FranciscoThis is a place I remember fondly from my days living in San Francisco. Years ago they used to be open at 7a.m. for coffee and pastry, and I so enjoyed walking up here with a friend and enjoying their raspberry filled pastry and good strong coffee.

2010Jan 31tags: Linda Bachrach | Palace of Fine Arts | San FranciscoThis is a small portion of the Palace of Fine Arts which was built for the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition and is the only building from the exposition that is still standing today. I lived very close to this for 20+ years and spent much time visiting and feeding the ducks and swans and other waterfowl who came and went from this lovely pond.
