Ah, good old poison ithcy. Well I thought I got rid of it all it just keeps popping up. I had it on a tree in the back yard. Here it is right in front of someones cat who I have no idea where he lives he likes to stay in my backyard. I feel sorry for the owner when they pet him/her. I call this one itchy from now on. Theres another cat somewhere his name is BJ a next door neighbors.

Rice Canal
3.5″ x 5.5″ Watercolor and Pen on Landscape Moleskine

I’m back to spontaneous painting. This was a lot of fun. I was heading back home and sure enough looking for something to paint. Bingo!! Here’s this awesome rice canal with a lot of colors. I’ve been wanting to do this rice canal for sometime. I go over it every day. This is early morning and it took about 45 minutes to do. The colors were always changing. I found myself adding things here and there and noticing other things like the light on the grass thats in the water. I had a nice place to stand up and put my sketch kit on the side railing while cars come and go. The water was moving pretty fast that day and kind of made a vertigo effect when bubbles came gliding through or the occasional flotsam. I felt like I might fall in every time I looked down to paint. I didn’t think about it but theres fish in here, probably catfish but there might be bass in here not for sure. I heard one gulp something down and make a big splash. I like this spot. Next time I will try and do one when it is a different color. I took a photo of the canal its on my website. Search for Rice Canal.

Fixing Up
5.5″ x 3.5″ Techliner Pen in Moleskine

There was a saying which I read and I couldn’t find it but it goes something like: if you see something that catches your attention put it down on paper because you may never see it that way again. In this case this boat vanished the next day. I was hoping to get back to it and add the color. Its amazing how they move these boats isn’t it?
I love sailboats so when I get a chance to come over here in Clear Lake its a blast. I had some extra time to do a sketch of this sailboat in a marina. They do repairs and have lots of boats. We used to have a sailboat in the marina next door and thank god we don’t now because 2 years later hurricane Ike demolished it. There were boats everywhere jammed up against the inlet.

5.5″ x 3.5″ Colored Pencil and graphite in Moleskine

Switching over to colored pencil for a while on a Moleksine 3.5″ x 5.5″ sketchbook.
Figure studies like this, take me a while to do. The toughest thing is proportions. The face took me a long time to get right. Then I had some changes in proportion of the body as I went along. The under-drawing was done in 2B pencil with most of the erasing on the head, lol. The good thing about the Moleskine paper is it can take erasing. The background and some of the darker areas was in 2b graphite. The white line to her right is a thread from the Moleskine, lol.
Early Morning

I started a series of early morning pictures of the sky since I wanted to work on my skys more this was an easy and fun way to do it. I was wanting to do this sketch ever since I noticed more fog in the mornings and to my surprise an awesome orange glow which I didn’t capture here. The farmer didn’t even bother getting them all up, lol. I think his tractor broke. The later it gets the more color you see, especially behind the tops of the tree line. I didn’t have a lot of time and I knew I had to work fast. I didn’t even bother with doing a pen under drawing. The colors in the sky were changing rapidly and the clouds were changing too. When I started to put in fogthe fog vanished only to reappear after I drove off. Better luck next time. The hay bails in the field added extra interest, we call them jelly rolls. This scene was right out my front door, didn’t have to go far for this one.

Five Amigos

Street scene here. I love this building its located on 146 and FM 528 in Seabrook, TX. Its right on the corner and you cant tell it from this perspective but the building floor plan is a triangle. This was done pretty quick. The reason is I was baking. It was at least in the upper 90′s. If your wondering about what Five Amigos means look at the picture closely. If you find out let me know you did!!

Wildlife Refuge

Weekends are fun. Thats when I love going on trips with my Dad. We took a trip to the Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge, seen here. Weve been here plenty of times but this day I had my sketchbook with me. There are a lot of migratory birds that visit this area. This is the first place I seen a black necked stilt, didn’t know what it was when I saw it but I was able to look it up according to my sketch of him which I thought was really awesome. The sketch can be seen on my website. Its also home to alligators. During the spring of this year we saw a 12 footer right next to this walking bridge. I have a picture of him too on my website. Luckily I snapped a photo of his mating call, its a deep bellowing grunting sound and it makes his body shake and the water around him. The water almost dances and sounds like a water fountain.

Rice Dryers
3.5″ x 11″ Watercolor and pen in rebound Moleskine Landscape

This is the rice dryers in Alvin, TX. If you like rice and have ate a brad called Texamati it came from here. Theres another bigger facility In front of this one across the street. I was parked in its parking lot. The sun was behind me we I started this sketch. It took a while to do, and once I started putting in watercolors the sun made interesting color changes on the buildings. Originally the part thats orange was Grey. The silos to the left started changing purplish.
Can you see the guy on the bike stirring up some pigeons? There was another guy I seen dancing as he was walking around the complex. He must have been getting off work, lol.
