SkineArt.com: So Kirby tell us about your masterpiece!
KirbysArt: This is a watercolor version of an excavator in a field. Its not my favorite subject but it caught my eye. I lke the light hitting it and the light in the field with shadows. What really makes it good is the light in the field and the color on the excavator. It took about 20 minutes to do.
SkineArt.com: Sounds interesting. So whats the story behind it?
KirbysArt: Well, one day I was headed to the grocery store and decided to take my camera with me. I was looking for a subject to take a photo of and found this excavator sitting in someones field. I liked the sunlight all around it so I turned around and took a photo. When I got home I painted it.
SkineArt.com: Yes I can sense the bright sunlight. Kirby, what medium did you use?
KirbysArt: I like the Moleskine Sketchbooks and this was done in my watercolor 8″ x 5″. I sketched this in pencil using countour lines like Charles Reid does. Reid’s my mentor. The brand I use is W&N artist grade watecolors. I used Cadmium Orange, French Ultramarine Blue, New Gamboge, Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, and Burnt Umber and maybe a little Cerulean Blue.
SkineArt.com: What technique would you say you used?
KirbysArt: I use wet on dry, wet into wet, and an occasional dry brush technique like you see in the foreground to the left of the excavator and in the field. I try to let my colors blend on the paper giving the subject a feel of being connected with its surroundings.
SkineArt.com: Do you have a website for people to check you out?
KirbysArt.com: Absolutely, It’s http://www.KirbysArt.blogspot.com
SkineArt.com: Well Kirby, sounds really cool! Keep up the awesome painting and sketching, and we hope to see your next masterpiece in here.
KirbysArt: Oh thank you SkineArt.com, its been a pleasure!

This is in Seabrook, TX. The building on the right is a Law Office and is three story’s tall. I have an older watercolor I did of it here which is the front view. The bell is on the right.

Some quick sketches of cars using contour lines. Later when I got home I colored them. The one in blue top right must of had oil on the paper, lol.
