I’m not going to bore you by uploading loads of these things, but this is the start of my learning to create Celtic knots for the background of a painting. I’d like to work out an incredibly detailed square knot, but you have to start with basics don’t you, so this is the first lesson.
Done in a small squared Moleskine which came as a pack of three thin books. Ideal!
I was fiddling around with celtic knots, trying to understand how their construction works. The deer-like animal is from a Greek design. I like the idea of mixing ancient styles together.

Our dog Sam resting his head on the arm of the sofa. Typically he’d been there for ages so I thought I could draw him, but this is as far as I got before he went off looking for a model release form.
Reminds me of the old saying “Never make sleeping dog’s tell the truth”.
It’s supposed to be a packet of crisps on a plate. I got lost in various shades of greyishness. I could get into this “draw then eat” practice though.
I was going to draw my wife’s favourite childhood toy but unfortunately that one had no eyes, nose, or anything feature-like remaining. So I had a go at this one instead. Not sure if it’s a bear or a dog. I’m guessing it’s a dog, unless bears have long tails.
