The picture and your description of the boat ran a bell with me, the boat was moored on the left when I was there about 5 years ago.

Really thats cool. Im not sure when Ray painted it. I have a different book Im studying that he published in 2002.
Im not sure if its Snape Maltings in Suffolk but your discription matches. The boat was moored on the left bank. I’ll try to get the book again to find out for you.
