Early Morning 15
3.5″ x 5.5″ Watercolor on Landscape Moleskine
By Kirby
I ran out of the Canson 140lb cp block paper and switched to my Watercolor Landscape Moleskine. This paper seems different. This morning was not as dramatic as yesterday. I captured the cloud patterns better today and a good glow but not the one I was hoping to get. It needs to be more graded. As always the colors change pretty fast one moment your preparing to put in the orange wash like you see it and once its done the colors have changed, lol. I still had some ultramarine blue left to make the black. Today I get more, yeeeeeeeaaaaaaahhhh. I did notice that I could see some green in the trees so I added some. I think it needs to be more paler and cooler.
Not a lot of fog this morning either.
The jellies have no sign of moving yet………..

Nice catch of a sunrise!
One of the problems with painting en plein air is the changing light. You have to decide right from the beginning where the light is coming from and then stick with that—–or paint VERY fast
It’s amazing how the look of a landscape changes as the light changes, and I still find that thrilling.

Excellent! It doesn’t really matter how it looked to you, what matters is how it came to be on the paper and that resulting image (true or false) I like! The other one passed and this is here to stay.
