Bridge # 14 – Ink in a regular Moleskine Sketchbook
During a canal bike run I stopped and attempted this this. Some of the ink was finished, later, at home. Its not as good as I hoped and illustrates the problems I have with anything “wet” on sketchbook paper. Any solutions would be welcome. I’ll stick to watercolour paper in the future if I want to add ink or colour.
Bridges, on our canals, were given numbers when they were being erected. It was only later that they acquired names from local landmarks. One such is the skull bridge where a human skull was unearthed during construction.

As a guy who does mostly ink I understand the problem with Moleskiens and fluids. I do add watercolor and it does not work well. I have had some results for all black, as yours is with Pitt brush pens. Probably will never hang in the Louve, but work well for sketching.
sure wish I could post pics, have tried now for two weeks, checked sizes and names etc but never get the prieview, visted forums but to no avail.
I visit the site for ideas and inspiration so keep thm coming

Thanks for this, Terry. I’m dismayed to hear that you still are having difficulty sending stuff in. I’m at a loss as to what to advise. I looked, again, at the faq section and tried to see, from the detailed downloading instructions, if there was anything I recognised but – no luck. Keep trying. If the problem persists start a new thread, in the forums like the one Roseinigo did a few weeks ago. This might attract attention. Call it something like “Help please, Leo!” Alternatively email to “info@skineart.com” Hope you get on-line soon.

Well I just got it to work, but compressed the pic down from 166kb to about 50kb and it went. but 166 is a lot less than 1M so still puzzeled.
thanks for the encouragement.

Bob – you mention the problem of anything “wet” on the Moleskine sketchbook, regular paper.
Before moving to the Moleskine watercolour paper, I’d have satisfaction/success by simply adding a drop (or two) of dish soap to the water. The soap has a way of breaking the surface tension – acting as a surfactant.
Perhaps ox gall would work – I understand that it, too, makes for a good wetting agent) –
It’s a wetting agent that you’re after – something to add to the water of the watercolours, or to the ink, I think. That is, if the inks don’t already have the wetting agent added. (Noodlers inks, e.g.).

TerryL, try to make pictures smaller in Photoshop in Image Size, than save in Jpeg in a folder and see if this is the size you like.its fast and easy.

dont know how they can get much smaller than 22k, which is what the last ones were. But maybe you are refering to image size not file, will give it a try just in case, thanks

Nope not that, just tried it with one that was only 448 pixels, that is actually smaller than Moleskine size and only 22k

I like the softness of it. It is like a dream

j.s – Interesting. I’ll definitely try your suggestion. Being a collector of art stuff (I’m always looking for that magic ingredient) I actually have a bottle of ox-gall. It came in a package with other stuff and I’ve often wondered what is was used for. It’ll be interesting to experiment. Thanks for this.
Terry – I’m no computer expert but my sons are all in computer related work having graduated in this science. If (a big “If”) I can get a hold of them I’ll put your problem to them to ellicit suggestions. In the meantime PLEASE keep trying and, if anyone out there has some suggestions which might help Terry, lets hear them. (I’ll post this in your latest thread in the forums section) PS One thing I have noticed about previews. Sometime it takes a long time to actually come up on the screen. I suppose this might be due to heavy traffic on the site at any particular time. I once tried a few times, having endured the thing “timing out” but eventually got there in the end. Roseindigo had similar problems for a while but, for some reason, manages to post stuff these days.
ValD – This is so nice of you. I get a sense of achievement when I get feedback like this and am really grateful for the time taken to comment. Thanks you. Bob

When I’m posting something I still have problem with the system timing out, and before the preview comes up it sends me back to the home page; so I just click on the “log in” again and allow it to finish loading. It sometimes takes quite a while. Be patient, and your picture will eventually load.
