Early Morning
3.5″ x 11″ Watercolor in Moleskine
By Kirby
I started a series of early morning pictures of the sky since I wanted to work on my skys more this was an easy and fun way to do it. I was wanting to do this sketch ever since I noticed more fog in the mornings and to my surprise an awesome orange glow which I didn’t capture here. The farmer didn’t even bother getting them all up, lol. I think his tractor broke. The later it gets the more color you see, especially behind the tops of the tree line. I didn’t have a lot of time and I knew I had to work fast. I didn’t even bother with doing a pen under drawing. The colors in the sky were changing rapidly and the clouds were changing too. When I started to put in fogthe fog vanished only to reappear after I drove off. Better luck next time. The hay bails in the field added extra interest, we call them jelly rolls. This scene was right out my front door, didn’t have to go far for this one.

What a great project. The early morning is a magical time, but everything changes so quickly. And, a different day, a different look to the morning. You did well with the challenge!

This is so well done and what a coincidence! My latest post also has the “jelly rolls” but is meant to represent the end of the day. Its next to this great wee painting.

Thanks for the great comments. Thats cool trebor. Dont you just love jelly rolls. It makes for a good start in the morning. The clouds are always different its weird. Can’t wait to find out what tommorow will bring. Hopefully my technique will get better. Unfortunately out of the 11″ landscape paper I will using a 4″ x 6″ canson block or sometimes the leftover from the gutted landscape moleskine paper.
