I really enjoy stacking rocks, too. Makes me slow down, like drawing does. Have you seen Shane Hart’s rock stacked sculptures? If not, you’ll like this site (good photography as well as rocks) http://www.stonetostone.com/STS/MAIN.html
Inretesting concept, in this nice drawing Joe. Is this a commong thing in the states? Here, people reaching the top of one of our mountains traditionally add a stone to the cairn marking the summit. Helps with navigation. Is this a similar thing?
Intriguing site Margie,
Thanks for that photo Margie. It’s quite amazing, isn’t it?
Actually rock balancing is something that made the rounds in Europe a few years ago, especially in southern Europe. The idea was to balance rocks in a very precarious way and also produce a good sculpture, and then photograph it. After some of the art sites I was on discussed it I tried it myself, and it’s not easy, but it can be done. It’s different from a cairn in that the rocks are very precariously balanced and the slightest breeze will make them fall. I thought it was an interesting concept.

You have really mastered your style, this is great! I love the rock textures with the grass and tree shapes.
