I created a pixelated abstract of my daughter running on the beach in a Large Moleskine Squared Reporter using colored pencils. I worked from a photograph and a Photoshopped image in which I reduced the resolution to be similar to the grid paper and for help with color selection. If you squint, you can get an idea of how the original looked.

very cool – I’ve seen a lot of paintings done in this way and wanted to try it. seems like it would be very good eye training for value and color

Very nice! I am always fascinated with art that creates an optical illusion.

I love this. In my colored pencil seminars this is one of the techniques I use to teach color distribution, and people seem to have a lot of fun with it and are always surprised that skin color is so many tints and shades. They end up with a better understanding of light and shade and how color works.

Thank you for your comments! This was really fun and it was a good exercise to break an image into so many subtle color variations. I have never been a fan of working with flesh tones so this made me a little crazy, but I got through it. I can’t wait to try this using another medium.
