I learned to draw by drawing graffiti as a kid. I suggest you try it even if your not into the scene. understanding how to get the shapes and lines of a word to flow in a cohesive style helped me out alot when I moved on to drawing subjects outside of graffiti. all in pencil with a micron outline.

One thing I remember is that kids who were into drawing graffiti like this were VERY detail oriented. It was great too because they got approval from other kids.
