Mother Love – Inktense and Watercolour on a Watercolour Moleskine
This is an entry for this month’s challenge, the topic is “Go for Love”. Moleskinners are invited to submit a post based on this title. The lack of interest, in the “Forums section” was first highlighted by Nick Powell and the idea of a challenge grew from this. R_sail has kindly offered to come up with a list of topics. More details can be found in the section “Theme Challenge #1”. A new topic will be offered each month. We very much hope lots of folks will participate and, perhaps some feedback might follow.
My drawing shows a mother and foal at Bonnington Farm, Ratho, Scotland, just along the road from my house. The mother is still very protective of her youngster while the wee one keeps close by. The bond/love is obviously very strong. I hope my presence did not distress the pair of them.

Cracking start Rob !
Good subject both content and execution!
Well done for getting it out so fast as well.I am still wrestling with the subject but I have a few ideas to work on now, not easy is it?
My son is just doing the same for his A.s. level art struggling with the theme.

Thanks roseindigo.
I stood and did a few sketches and although “Mum” usually brings her foal to show folks, she started to get a bit nervous so I finished this at home from a photograph. Getting more used to the Inktense pencils. This drawing was done by putting a layer of colour on dry then pushing it about with a wet brush. When this was dry I repeated with a darker colour and so on (There are four different colours here)

Good of you to say this. You are so right when you say its not all that easy getting started from a theme. This is why I think this “Challenge” might do us all some good in the long term. When I used to have to deliver lectures, based on a theme, I invariably looked up the key words in a dictionary or a thesaurus. This pointed me in the direction of other words which helped. My talks would invariably begin like, “The dictionary defines “X” as … so how can it help us tonight?”. This idea wasn’t much good here but it might help your son get started. One word of caution, however. Don’t type this month’s title into a search engine such as Google. You might get some surprising and unwanted results.
