This is in Surrey, just south of London in the UK. This is my first effort with a new watercolour set, and I haven’t done watercolour for years and years because I always told myself I couldn’t paint this way. So I’m glad of a compliment!
I agree with Linda. This is smashing. I think the way the texture of the walls has come out great. Is this done with the surface of the paper? What colour did you use for the wash? (Trying to steal secrets). More of these please!
Lovely watercolor with cheerful spring colors. Question? Did you do a pencil drawing first or just go right in there with a brush? It looks like the latter to me, very free and easy but with just enough control to define good edges. Beautiful! Hope you do lots more and show them to us.
Answers so far as I can give them: the wall surface is a gift from the paper, no skill on my part. As for colours, I sadly have no idea! It’s a tiny Cotman folding set with little pans, but I didn’t check what the actual colours were. My method (so far as I have one) is to try the closest to what I see and add dabs of the others – I’ve never been good at knowing what the names are and selecting by that. And for the drawing, I intended to start with black pen, but after a bare outline I decided I didn’t want it to be so stark so tried managing just with brush and paint from then. I’ll see how I go from now, but thanks to everybody for the encouragement.
