The Academy Art Center is part of the Honolulu Academy of Arts and I have taken many different types of art classes here. It is a beautiful piece of architecture and the front steps are actually semicircular. However mine didn’t come out that way!
I believe it is built with blocks of coral, like many of our other older buildings.

Don’t be too hard on yourself, Linda. This is a nice wee drawing with the perspective leading straight through the entrance, besides you might be able to solve a problem for me. What colour did you use for the lighter parts of the building? ie “That behind “Academy Art Centre”. Its the same as the colour in many buildings in Paris – in fact I brought some small stones back from my last trip there, to get the right match but never have managed to replicate it. Keep up the good work!

I am not sure which color you are referring to Bob, but it was done with a black Sharpie and the grey is a diluted form of the grey you get from the SAI Watercolor Pens(called “silver grey”). The lightest color is just the Moleskine paper. I think you’d like the SAI Watercolor Pens (just go to http://www.jetpens.com and you can find them). They are all Japanese mineral colors, so a bit different than our western colors.

Thanks for this, Linda. I feel so daft. Of course the lighter colour is that of the sketchbook – I just assumed that everyone was using a watercolour Moleskine which has white pages. Margie actually sent me this site, recently so I could get a brush pen but I didn’t realise that the company also did inks so, believe it or not, I’ve found something which will do and will get an order off ASAP. Thanks for your help. Regards Bob
