Farewell Tony. Thanks for everything – Inktense Pencils on a small watercolour Moleskine
Lots of children, and former children will be saddened to hear of the death of Tony Hart, on January 18th at 83 years. He did so much to encourage an interest in art in all its different forms. He and his plasticine sidekick “Morph” graced our TV screens for many years. (I’m sorry if this is not a true likeness. Its the thought that counts).

Tony was “the man” – we had a little remembrance of him last night, and reminisced while listening to the ‘gallery’ music. We agreed that his imaginative approach to art at that time was enlightening and encouraging. He captivated children of all ages.

This is a very nice tribute to Tony Hart. The wikipedia reference is an interesting read. I knew nothing of this man and his art (ignorant American), though in small doses, I really enjoy the Teletubbies.

Don’t be so hard on yourself, Susan. Most of Tony Hart’s TV stuff would be for UK consumption only although some of his stuff did make it abroad. He was, as Sarah says above, “the man” meaning that he was the sort of person who oozed enthusiasm, appealing to all ages. Always willing to experiment with different media he taught youngters to “go for it”. He once said that the marker pen was the best thing ever invented. Sarah talks about the gallery music. This was played as many of the efforts, sent in by children, were shown on TV – kinda like Skineart I suppose. Maybe we should get Loe to add music to the posts as we look at them.

Mr. Rogers and Captain Kangaroo didn’t do much in the way of art. I would have loved Tony Hart’s TV stuff.
