The day after christmas.
The little guy at the left is a “tió”. He is the one that brings presents to the catalan children.
Well, actually he “shits” the presents and sweets…
He is a magical log. Normally is just a piece ofe wood with a painted face, a hat and a scarf, but mine got this cute papier mache face (it is a puppet, in fact, not a “real” log)
Children keep him warm and feed him during the advent time. On christmas eve, they hit the poor guy with sticks and sing songs. Then, the “tió” defecates the christmas sweets and presents.
Yes, I know. We are a very scatological people…but it’s fun, anyway.
Merry christmas, and happy new year…

All traditions are wonderful and should be preserved Mhuire. I have found your description fascinating and your cozy drawing quite wonderful. Please accept my “complements of the season” in return to yours.

Isn’t it nice how each country gives their own twist to common traditions. Just curious: what do the children use to feed the tió?

They feed him with oranges, bread, traditional christmas sweets, tangerines,…and he eats everything!!!
