I’m pretty sure he was homeless. The fact that it was a pretty empty car on a dark cold night allowed me to focus on his slow movement downwards, unfortunately seeming like a terribly perfect metaphor as to what is happenig to the rest of society these days. Chances are if you are sleeping on the train either you wake up hours later and miles away from your destination (often after a little bender) or you don’t have anywhere in particular to go and you are just riding out the cold night. Although some people have the uncanny ability to catch a few zzzs and get up just before their stop – gotta make sure you still have your shoes though!
beautiful art and that’s really thoughtfully written on the subject!
i’ve seen a couple people slumped in this way on the subway with their hoods and everything covered, just shapes you know, i tried to draw them but it looked nothing like this, this i feel conveys the sight really well, especially the bottom/second one… the two drawings work fantastic together

This is fun. With all the sleeping on subways, there must be lots of lost people wondering where they are upon waking.

Evocative drawings, amiplasse. These remind me of those less fortunate souls who are homeless and are forgotten for most of the year except at this time when our consciences are pricked. Please read Sara Teasdale’s poem which comes to mind.
