An awful lot going on in this composition and so well done. I like your use of the “darks” to give some value to the other objects. Your drawing must take forever to produce.
very interesting. How you work on it? draw from nature in pencil, and finish at home with ink? or using photo as a reference? please, tell a little more about your work process. thank you.
Always a location pencil sketch first. Unless there is a reasonable place to continue with ink, I finish later. This was sketched while standing on a very busy sidewalk, I couldn’t possibly start and finish here. I took several photos, none from this angle (glass reflection) so this is somewhat improvised. I prefer to work from memory rather than digital photos. My brain seems to hold on to the scene from the pencil sketch. Thanks for asking!
For me it works the same. Quick sketch in pencil and ink on location, paint later with sometimes a picture as reference. The nice thing is, the drawing then seems to get its own logic, if I draw too long on location I sometimes lose myself in unnecessary details. For you the same?
This one is really whimsical and fun. Not looking back I can think of which of your drawings made the most impression on me anyway, and this is right at the top.
Thank you for sharing your techniques.I like to start and finish on a spot, but sometimes its not possible, so my ways are similar, except my computer is so slow, that I keep scribbling on something for as long as paper takes it. I love your style, Susan.

Yes, the same for me. Also, if I start from a photo, the spontaneity is not there.
