working on faces, my favorite things to draw, paint and study.
sorry for the distortion – I can’t get the book to lay flat because the pages are so thick. Any suggestions?

Occupational hazard. Just go with it I guess.

I’ve had the same problem and agree with artyvelarde’s solution. If this doesn’t work you may find that the lid comes off your scanner and residual light, getting into the edges, can be blocked by covering everything with a dark cloth.(remember to take it off, afterwards – in case this becomes a fire hazard)

I have been taking pictures with my digital camera and loading them that way. The quality suffers a little (or a lot depending on if you like my stuff or not) but it is a cheap and cheerful way of posting.

BoboMonkey – I shoot my images, too – forget using my scanner. I am trying to get the pages to lay flat for the camera. I’ve used clothespins, but then you see the clothespin in the image. I’ll use little bulldog clips next time around. Or I’ll just live with the distortion, like you do. Yes, it adds “charm”!
I’m using a watercolor book for many of these faces that are colored with watercolor paint. Its amusing to see the pages swell and the book getting more difficult to close as the drawings and days pass!

Frankly I do these once the kids go to bed and then shoot them using a bulldog clip before I go to bed. I really should invest in a decent desk lamp but the wife has taste so I am stuck with the light bulb that give the “homely” glow that marks my drawings. I marvel at what you professional guys turn out.

Bobo, I think your photos of your sketches have more of a homey glow than a homely glow! I like the yellow. (BTW: Very funny what you wrote about Americans bulking up to absorb the shock of millions of Chinese jumping simultaneously!)

Thanks and nice to meet someone else who can see the unison jump threat for what it is, and do we get a “thank you”? Only at the drive thru. Homely is a British word for homey. British vocab is creeping into my daily use of the language which is brilliant!
