East Prince’s Street Gardens. Watercolour with some ink highlights on a watercolour Moleskine.
Prince’s Street Gardens is divided into two sections by a steep hill, known as the “Mound” which allows access up to the Royal Mile from Prince’s Street. This, East section, is the smaller of the two and stops opposite Waverley Station. The Scott Monument stands in this part. The West Gardens lie below Edinburgh Castle and cover an old “loch” (the Nor’ Loch) which used to guard the foot of the castle a few hundred years ago.

Very nice classic feel to this. I would love to stroll through the gardens.

So good, Bob. Your descriptions are also very informative and interesting too.

Bob rules. I’d really love to see more descriptions, stories, and comments like these from everyone – it gives a whole another dimension to the artwork, doesn’t it?

yes that’s true.

Thanks everyone. Leo; I, too, am learning more about my own area as I have to check lots of facts before posting desriptions. I too would love to learn more about the scenes others post. I don’t belong to Edinburgh but my wife, Margaret, does so she “proof reads” things for me. Magda, I’m glad that this has reminded you of things past. Good memories are so nice to have – its one reason for keeping sketchbooks. Susan, it’s easy to stroll round parts of our city. Just get on a plane and Margaret and I will show you round. Come in the summer time when its warmer. Rob, I’ll try to “paint” my descriptions clearer to give everyone a sense of being here. Thanks again.

Hi cmetzart. I’m afraid we can only plant glass poles in the counrtyside. It’s too hard too get planning permission to do anything in Edinburgh. Thanks for the thought though.

just beautiful – I really like the texture of the trees
trebor61 7:49 am on November 23, 2008 | #
Thanks Margie. The texture was done by applying very thick watercolour paint with a small, natural sponge. I find that you have to do this very lightly otherwise smudges occur. If you want to try this with ink it might be better to use a synthetic sponge which might be more easily cleaned. Good of you to comment.
