Giant Redwood Trees (Sequoiadendron giganteum) – Ink on a Watercolour Moleskine.
I’ve always been fascinated by this type of tree but never have managed to see them in their native country, so this effort, which is copied from a photo my son Andrew took, will have to do. We do have redwood specimens in Scotland, the following link shows the ones at The Younger Botanical Gardens, Benmore by Cowall, Argyll & Bute. These trees are much smaller than the ones on the west coast of North America.

Nice redwoods, Bob! You’ll have to visit them in California. I’ve spent many summers camping or hiking around them. One of the wonders of the world in my opinion.

Thanks for the complement Rob. I would have to agree about these being wonders of the world. I am often fascinated by facts such as “dating back to the time of Christ” when folk decsribe some long lived trees. We should really care for them.

Just stumbled upon your page – not for art though. But the piece looks very nice.
I don’t think you have to see those trees in person to paint them nicely.
Photos can provide a lot to go from.
Coast redwoods is my adventure place because I like cool coastal climates best for exploring. Not sure if my images might give some food for thought in regard to painting, but my redwood wanderings are here:
