Sea Fever.
Ink on a watercolour Moleskine
I must down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by………………
from Sea Fever by John Masefield
This was the first sketch, copied from my very first Moleskine where I attempted to dovetail poems with sketches. I decsribed my attempts in one of the first “forum” entries on this site and have just realised that I have another source of drawings to bore you all with.

Just LOVE this one. That sky is awesome, and so is the water.

yeah, that is really great!! i have a strange fondness for tall ships – they’re so big, powerful, majestic. you really captured the ship and the environment well! keep up the great work!

Thaks everyone. I’ve been out all day and have just returned to all of these nice comments. Makes me want to try another one before bedtime.

This is a great piece.
There’s no real sense of horizon for me. I see it, but it needs some strength behind it.
I really like the waves. The colours there are great. Keep up the good work.

Not boring at all! I am still trying to count the number of colours you have used in depicting the wonderful sea you have created.

Thanks Humph. I used five coloured inks, mixed to get different effects. After laying down a wash of black (leaving a few spaces), which I let dry, I added some white in a random way. Then painted “wave shapes” getting smaller and less distinct as I got near the ship, with different mixed of Ultramarine, Bright Red and Yellow into the white parts. Some white parts were still wet and the colours ran into each other. When everything was dry I sharpened the nearest waves up with more colour. I’m not too sure I could repeat this again.
