A Scottish Heritage Tree – Watercolour
This ash tree stands in the grounds of Gordon Castle near Elgin, Moray. The tree is reputedly around 245 years old, is 95 feet high and measures approximately 26 feet around the base. Like many old trees the heartwood has long vanished leaving the centre of the bole hollow. All that supports this specimen is the outer layer of sapwood acting in the same way as a tube.

What a beauty that one is, and you seem to have caught its character beautifully.

Ah RoseMarie. You have found me out. I am addicted to the pursuit of trees. I just cannot stop drawing them. I know its wrong and have promised to seek help but I just cannot stop. I have paused, in the middle of producing another effort, to reply to you. Its the wood you know
Thanks for the king comment. Bob

Very peaceful tree, I wish I can fall under this tree with my head down.
Interesting that my posts stopped at this number, I should keep it for a while. :/

Bobob,
The only way to stop me is to force money through my hands
Nikira,
If you slept under this tree, at the moment, you would get very, very wet and cold. Also post at least one more to get away from 666 as this is the number of the beast http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Number_of_the_Beast

Bob, I can’t draw, out of paper and out of breath.
Under that tree probably not as cold as at home now, heat shut off.
Yes, dangerous number.

Actually drawing trees and loving them seems to be a positive addiction—so no need to worry if that’s the worst addiction you have. We should all have similar addictions and the world might be a better place. I’ve been addicted to flowers and trees for a long time, so I figure I’m in good company.

Ha Ha – “In good company”. You flatter me. This is praise from Caesar indeed. I take your point about drawing trees and wonder if I relax, so much, when doing this because they take a while and I become totally absorbed, shutting out the outside world. My problem is I seem to forget how I manage certain techniques so am always “Re-inventing the wheel” as regards certain bits. I am, for instance, painting a group of back-lit beech trees at the moment and seem to have “discovered” a good method to show their bark. Trouble is, I now find I have used this before. Must start taking notes

Interesting point, Bob. I, actually, came up with the idea in my early years, that it is very good to forget, it makes you free from pain and gives you always fresh look at old and boring. I drew the same streets of old Moscow many times as I saw it for the first time. So it is a good thing to re-invent, Bob.
