Hurricane Sandy dragged seaweed and sand along with water into small streets of South Brooklyn, so it attracted seagulls. Was almost Hitchcock’y to be in the middle, but gave me an inspiration for this drawing. Ink and Kuretake on Bockingford paper.

Terrific depiction of these birds and they way they can really take over. They can be a bit of a nuisance and folks in our seaside communities consider them pests. I once had food snatched from my hand by one. They can become quite aggresive if you don’t share with them. They also make a mess with their droppings and are known, here, as “S..t Hawks”. Hopefully most of the debris, in Brooklyn and NYC in general is being tackled so this might not become a permanent problem.

and then there is the front yard marvel my wife tends. bird feeders. feed the birds, and the little mammals come to stay. feed the little mammals and the hawks and eagles will come. this is the suburbs, not the country. sitting in the chairs out front, it is almost as if we’re not even there, the way the birds fly past us so close.
thanks for sharing, Nikira.
